Giota Eftaxia is a Lead Platform Engineer at Allwyn Lottery Solutions, where she leads the Core Platform team responsible for Athena, the company's internal Kubernetes platform across cloud and on-premise environments.
A recovering software engineer, Giota focuses on building platforms that make the right way the easy way. Using Kubernetes, GitOps, and self-service infrastructure, she enables teams to ship safely and consistently across multi-cloud environments. Her work treats the platform as a product, with a focus on developer experience, reliability, and reducing operational overhead.
Over the past few years at Allwyn Lottery Solutions, we've moved from running monoliths to our own Kubernetes-based platform that we build and operate ourselves across cloud and on-premise environments.
In this talk, we'll walk through that journey and the decisions behind it:
- Why we chose to build our own platform ?
- Why we chose to destroy and recreate our entire infrastructure from scratch for every platform upgrade?
- What GitOps looks like in practice in our platform?
- How we are currently improving our platform based on the experience we gained?
